How It Works — 5 Simple Steps to Thriving Plants

Step 1 – Plant & Prepare

Add airy, breathable indoor mix to the transparent insert, place your plant, then fill around it. Water the soil directly in the insert and place it into the outer pot.

Step 2 – Let It Adjust

After 1–2 weeks, once the top soil feels dry, your plant is ready for self-watering mode.

Step 3 – Fill the Reservoir

Use the water port to fill until just below the water level window. The wick + soil will do all the work for you.

Step 4 – Pause Between Refills

When the water is gone, wait 2–5 days before refilling. This promotes healthy root aeration and prevents overwatering.

Step 5 – Refill & Relax

Repeat steps 2–4 and enjoy thriving plants with zero guesswork.

Why Our Planter is Different

We focus on what really matters — root health.

Product FAQs

Our planters use a two-part design with a bottom-fill watering system:

  • Inner pot with ventilation holes on the walls and bottom for optimal airflow to the roots.
  • Outer pot with a built-in water reservoir and water inlet for easy refilling.
  • A wick at the base draws water upward from the reservoir, giving your plant the ideal balance of oxygen and moisture — no soggy roots, no dry spells.
  1. After planting, water thoroughly from the top once to moisten all soil.
  2. Let the plant adapt for a few weeks. After that, add water only through the water inlet.
  3. Watch the water level indicator and refill when low.
  4. For drought-tolerant plants (ZZ plants, snake plants) or dense soils, allow a 2–5 day dry period after the indicator shows “empty” before refilling — this encourages root aeration and prevents overwatering.

Note: Over time, some plants will grow water roots that extend into the reservoir — this is normal and helps the plant drink efficiently.

Once your plant adjusts, the reservoir can last up to 4 weeks between refills, depending on the plant, pot size, and your home’s environment.

  • Use a water-soluble liquid fertilizer at ¼–½ strength of the label’s recommendation.
  • Add fertilizer through the water inlet during normal refills.
  • Because the root zone stays moist, lighter but regular feeding works best.
  • During active growth (spring–summer), fertilize every 3–4 weeks; reduce or pause in winter.
  • Flush the soil periodically by watering from the top until excess drains into the reservoir, then empty and rinse the reservoir to prevent salt buildup and keep the wick efficient.

Yes! You can grow any plant — just adjust care to its needs:

  • For drought-tolerant plants (dracaenas, ZZ, snake plants): use well-draining, airy soil and allow a 2–5 day dry period after the reservoir empties before refilling.
  • For thirsty plants (peace lilies, ferns, tropicals): add a second wick to increase water flow.

Always match the soil mix to your plant’s preference.

Many plants adapt by growing water roots directly into the reservoir. These roots are smoother and more translucent than soil roots and specialize in absorbing water. This is normal and healthy.

No — the inner pot sits above the water line when you follow the indicator. Ventilation holes let oxygen reach the roots, while the wick draws just enough water. If water roots grow into the reservoir, they’re adapted to be submerged and won’t rot.

Use a light, well-draining indoor mix so the wick can efficiently move moisture upward. Heavy soils can block airflow and suffocate roots.

Roots need oxygen just like leaves need sunlight. Our design — with a water & oxygen inlet and ventilation holes on the walls and base — lets fresh air reach the root zone, while the wick and reservoir provide steady moisture. This keeps roots healthy, prevents rot, and encourages strong growth.

Only during initial setup or after repotting should you water from the top to fully moisten the soil. After that, always refill through the water inlet to keep the system functioning and avoid over-saturating the top layer.

Every few months, or if you notice any organic matter or mineral buildup, you can:

  • With plant in place: Empty any remaining water from the outer pot, wash it with warm soapy water and rinse gently.
  • For a deep clean: If repotting or the planter is empty, remove the inner pot and wick, wash with warm soapy water, and for mineral buildup, soak in vinegar water for 15 minutes before rinsing.

Choose a planter that is 1–2 inches larger than your plant’s root ball.

  • Too small → roots quickly run out of space and growth stalls.
  • Too large → excess soil may stay wet too long, raising root rot risk.

We’re growing — and so is our collection! We currently offer 4-inch and 6-inch sizes in white and plan to add new colors, sizes, and shapes. Tip: Sign up for our newsletter to be first to know (and get early access).

  • Innovative airflow — Outer pot promotes circulation; inner pot has ventilation holes on bottom and walls to deliver oxygen to roots.
  • Effortless watering — Built-in water inlet + level indicator remove guesswork.
  • Longer-lasting hydration — Wick + reservoir keep plants hydrated for up to 4 weeks.
  • Transparent inner insert — Easily check root health and moisture without disturbing the plant.
  • Supports water-root growth — Many plants naturally grow roots into the reservoir for efficient uptake.
  • Adaptable to any plant — Works for all types with simple soil tweaks, optional dry periods, and the option to add a second wick.
